We left ours down and attached at the bottom. I would also make sure the blinds were pulled taught, so they didn't shift side to side, either.

Now with the ER we have the pleated blinds and tinted windows. I can't tell a difference, it still gets hot!! And yes, you grab the bottom plastic piece in the center and lift to raise them, or pull down to close them. The cords on the sides should be tight. If they loosen up, the blind may not stay up. On our PDI they said to loosen those screws and pull the cords tight again if needed.

We pull all of our shades up when traveling. Saves them from possibly coming out of the clip things and bouncing around.

We were told to put them up to travel. The 'thingys' they lock into in the bottom are cheap plastic and if they will break the blinds will be beating off the walls. Our previous camper had 3 broken 'thingys' when we got it that we had to replace so it made sense to us.
